Panama international midfielder Amilcar Henriquez has been shot and killed in Panama’s Colon province, Didacio Camargo, Panama’s National Police press chief, confirmed Saturday.
Panamanian authorities say the 33-year-old Henriquez was leaving his home when a gunman shot him, and two others, several times. Henriquez later died at a nearby hospital.
Henriquez played his club football with Arabe Unido, named to the starting XI in both legs of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal loss to FC Dallas earlier this year. Henriquez was also a member of Panama’s national team and played against the United States last month in a World Cup qualifier.
