Daily fantasy NBA basketball slate breakdown for DraftKings and FanDuel – 2.23.17

Written by: Kyle Dillard – Intern Staff Writer (@TheGrandstandKD)

The All-Star break has been riveting. After so many days away from the daily grind of NBA DFS, Ronnie and I are back and ready to guide you through everything you need to know about this Thursday night slate. Welcome back, and let’s get this show on the road.

Portland Trail Blazers @ Orlando Magic
Vegas: POR -2.5 Total: 213.0

Notes: Terrence Ross will be making his debut tonight for the Magic.  Jusuf Nurkic could potentially be in the starting lineup for the Blazers

Players of Interest:

Damian Lillard – He has a great matchup against a weak back court, his price is high but I think he’s a very solid play.  Same goes for CJ McCollum.

Maurice Harkless – I think as long as Aminu remains out he’s a good play.  He is not an exciting player but his price point is low enough to where I feel safe with him.

Jusuf Nurkic – If he is starting and/or playing over 23 minutes, I find it tough for Nurkic not to reach value here.  Going to be a very popular play.

Outside of the picks above, there is not all that much that intrigues me.

Evan Fournier – My favorite play from the Magic today; he is underpriced, will see an uptick in usage and has a great matchup against the frontcourt of the Blazers on top of an up-in-pace matchup.

Aaron Gordon – I imagine Gordon will finally be starting at the 4 but I couldn’t really tell you how the Magic will go about this.  He should see an uptick in minutes, usage and minutes at the 4.  He is not safe for cash but he’s certainly someone I am keeping an eye on.

Keep an eye on the Ross/Gordon/Green/Hezonja rotation, that will be where your money is made if you’re able to pick them correctly.  I feel that Vucevic could be overlooked tonight…

Charlotte Hornets @ Detroit Pistons
Vegas: DET -4.0 Total: 207.0

Players of Interest:

Frank Kaminsky – My FAVORITE play from this game and I am not afraid of his price.  In fact, I think that helps his case in GPPs even more. I think this is a great matchup for Kaminsky with Zeller and Plumlee ruled out.  Marvin Williams is another safe play but lacks the GPP winning upside.

Nicolas Batum – I am not on the Kemba train today because that is who KCP will guard and he is an excellent defender.  But he cannot matchup to Batum and that’s where I am landing.  Decent price on both sites with solid upside.

I am not very interested in many other Hornets players, MKG makes for an interested GPP play but I am not thrilled about the matchup.

The Pistons are in a very weird spot with both Drummond and Jackson on the trade deadline.  My interest only lies with Leuer (consistency), Morris (GPP + good matchup), and Drummond

Houston Rockets @ New Orleans Pelicans
Vegas: HOU -3.0 Total: 227.0

Notes: The Pelicans made a huge trade for Boogie Cousins! While losing Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and Langston Galloway.

Players of Interest:

Notes: Just like the kings, this entire lineup is in play. Value is key tonight.

James Harden – Triple Double threat always, don’t fade him completely tonight.

New York Knicks @ Cleveland Cavaliers
Vegas: CLE -10.0 Total: 223.0

Notes: The Knicks have made a lot of interesting thoughts on trading Carmelo, but I don’t think it’s going to affect his performance.

Players of Interest:

G.Hernangomez- With Joakim Noah out, Hernangomez is getting the  starting Nod. His price isn’t horrible, and the total on this game is high

Carmelo Anthony- I always play Carmelo, especially with rest. Against the Cavaliers, He’ll be In a fade spot, so roll him out with confidence

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving- you can never go wrong with stacking these fellas. Especially against the Knicks. You’ll never know what you’ll get from the Knicks Defensively, but Cash and GPP.

Denver Nuggets @ Sacramento Kings
Vegas: DEN -6.0 Total: 220.5

Players of Interest:

Nikola Jokic- As seen in his first stint of the season, Nikola Jokic is the real deal! It’ll be interesting to see how adding Mason Plumlee will affect his game. Nevertheless, He’s a cash and GPP play.

The entire starting kings lineup is in play due to their transactions and lack of depth. Serious value in this team, and I’d stack them frequently.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Golden State Warriors
Vegas: GS -11.5 Total: 230.5

Notes: Chris Paul could potentially make his return from injury tonight, he is listed as a GTD.  Zaza and David West are also currently listed as GTD/Questionable.

Players of Interest:

On the Warriors side, I am not interested in Klay (too pricy).  Curry > Durant if Chris Paul plays, vice-versa if he does not.  Draymond is more of a cash game player for me.   Outside of these guys, my interest is slim to none for a GPP punt.

Blake Griffin – His price is rising but he has a solid matchup here.  I think he’s a better GPP play especially if you think the Clippers can keep it close. A stack with Curry makes a lot of sense.

Without Chris Paul in the lineup, Austin Rivers is still an okay play.  I am not gonna pick between Crawford or Reddick, too difficult.  DeAndre could grab 20 rebounds tonight.
