College Basketball Preview: Indiana vs. Butler

Written by: Ben Brown – Staff Writing Intern (@TheBigShalom)

This is going to be a big weekend for college basketball. With four important top 25 matchups of 7 UNC vs  6 Kentucky in Las Vegas, Texas A&M vs 19 Arizona in Houston, 21 Notre Dame vs 15 Purdue in Indianapolis and 18 Butler vs 9 Indiana in Indy as well. The Cross Roads Classic in Indianapolis is great showcase of the four best college teams in Indiana. The state of Indiana is making a strong case to be considered the basketball capital of the world again with all four teams being ranked in the top 20.

I think the most important game of the classic is the Indiana vs Butler game. Both teams have amazing promise with Indiana already knocking off UNC and Kansas and Butler beating Arizona and Cincinnati. However, people, including me are skeptical because both teams have really bad losses, Indiana to IUPU Fort Wayne and Butler losing to Indiana State. This game will be a neutral court, but I expect IU fans to dominate in attendance. Indiana could add a third premier win to their tournament resume before the Big 10 starts which could be crucial in such a talented conference.

Both teams love to earn their living from outside the perimeter which can make for an exciting, high scoring game if both teams can find their shots. OG Anunoby is returning for Indiana. He will bring perimeter defense and bring back just enough to give the Hoosiers the edge. Butler will keep the game close with their shooting, but it won’t be enough in the end. Indiana 86 Butler 78.
