The ailing Philadelphia 76ers were in Minneapolis on Thursday to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in a nationally televised game between two of the future’s brightest teams. In the fourth quarter, and the Timberwolves up nearly 30 points, Karl-Anthony Towns hits Joel “The Process” Embiid with a series of veteran moves and throws down a no-doubt candidate for dunk of the year.
Towns fakes the handoff to a rolling Zach LaVine, spins out of the post, hits Embiid with a fake jumper, jab-steps, takes another fake jumper, which Embiid bites on, and turns on the jets, throwing down an absolutely devastating poster on Timothe Luwawu, Dario Saric, and a trailing Embiid.
I’m not sure a rim has been punished that bad since Shaquille O’Neil was lacing them up for the Los Angeles Lakers in his prime. The sound of Towns crashing onto the hoop sounded like a nuclear bomb. Embiid certainly won’t forget this dunk and will more than likely try and get his revenge when these two meet in Philadelphia later this season, but for now, Embiid is questionable for Saturday’s game with a fractured ego.
