Day 4 we take a look at the #7 ranked Xavier Musketeers. The past few years, Xavier has flown under the radar. Even beating #1 Villanova last season didn’t get them that much attention. This could be the year the Musketeers turn the corner.
The Big East now gets the respect it deserves having two teams in the top 10 and the defending national champions. Xavier has their leading scorer coming back in Trevon Bluiett as well as two good guards with Edmond Summer and Myles Davis. However, Davis is currently suspended indefinitely. They also have Norfolk State transfer RaShid Gaston who could play a big role.
Xavier has a chance to challenge Villanova for the Big East title this year. I think they can achieve or even surpass last year’s record of 28-6. Last season they had an early exit from the tournament losing on a buzzer beater to Wisconsin. I know they don’t want the same fate as last year, but it will depend on their draw. They need to put together the best regular season possible to make sure they get the best path possible. Even with the perfect storm, I don’t think they will get past the second weekend this year. It just seems like they are missing one piece to put them over into a final four/championship contender.
