The Miami Marlins have announced that ace pitcher, Jose Fernandez, has died following a boat crash in Miami Beach Sunday.

Fernandez, 24, was one of at least three people killed in a boat collision early Sunday morning.  Fernandez announced recently on his Instagram page that he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child together.

Sunday’s Marlins and Braves game has been cancelled due to the tragic death of the Miami star.

“All of baseball is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “He was one of our game’s great young stars who made a dramatic impact on and off the field since his debut in 2013. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Miami Marlins organization and all of the people he touched in his life.”
