NFL Daily Fantasy Sports Minute: Doug Pederson’s Past and Present

Written by: Brett J. Pietrzak – Vice President (@GrandstandBJP)

Spencer Ware of the Kansas City Chiefs and Ryan Mathews of the Philadelphia Eagles are two running backs who are shaping up to be very sneaky plays in week one. When analyzing the talent at running back for week one, obvious choices like Adrian Peterson, David Johnson, and Todd Gurley are all in the mix, but if you are looking for value, Mathews and Ware are your guys.

Spencer Ware, who thrived in coach Doug Pederson’s system, has a great match up with he San Diego Chargers, who ranked 30th in yards per carry allowed last season. It has become very likely that Jamaal Charles will not play, and the other Chief’s running back, Charcandrick West, is also working his war back from injury. Ware was a rock solid fantasy play in Charles’ absence last season. Ware totaled over 200 yards and three touchdowns in the two games that both Charles and West missed, including an 11-rush 96 yard performance against the Chargers.

Ryan Mathews was also able to have solid games when the Eagles lead-back, DeMarco Murray, missed time last season. This season, Mathews looks primed for success due to Doug Pederson’s run-friendly offense. The Brown’s are an atrocious football team and were gashed on the ground all throughout last season. There are certainly questions about the strength of Philadelphia’s offensive line, but Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson, who has not been issued a suspension yet, should provide push on the right side of the line.
