Daily Fantasy MLB Baseball: Batting Order Trends to Exploit on DraftKings and FanDuel – 8.24.16

Written by: Phillip Beneteau – Staff Writer (@FantasyPhilled)

Welcome to another segment of Leading Off with Phillip Beneteau. In this daily segment I highlight leadoff hitters to target as well as players who were moved up in the batting order which will spike their value for the day. As most DFS MLB players know, hitting leadoff and near the top of the order is huge for DFS potential, especially if it is a player who is just being moved up because of injury or simply in a great match up.

Chase Utley (2B) – DraftKings: $3,800, FanDuel: $2,800 – Los Angeles Dodgers

Chase Utley is currently riding a five game hitting streak and we know that he is much better with his right-handed pitching splits. Tonight, Utley faces pitcher Johnny Cueto who holds a 4.34 ERA over his last three starts. Utley has seven hits and a home run in 18 at bats against Cueto. He is a fantastic value play and should have a great floor at the very least.

Carlos Santana (1B) – DraftKings: $4,100, FanDuel: $3,700 – Cleveland Indians

Carlos Santana has been heating up over his last seven games as he holds a .318 batting average and .464 OBP. While his batting average is still not quite as high against right-handed pitching as it is against left-handed pitching, his power numbers jumps when he faces a righty. Santana has three hits and a home run in nine at bats against pitcher Kendall Graveman. If you are looking for a mini-stack option here, I would suggest Francisco Lindor (SS), who has four hits in eight at bats against Graveman.

Jose Abreu (1B) – DraftKings: $3,800, FanDuel: $3,500 – Chicago White Sox

One could argue that he has been a top five player over the last couple weeks. Jose Abreu is coming in to this evening’s game riding a six game hitting streak, and has at least a hit in 13 of his last 14 games. Abreu is also coming in to the game riding a three game home run streak. His batting average has risen to its highest point since the first month of the season and I expect it to continue as he continues his breakout second half.

Kyle Seager (3B) – DraftKings: $3,900, FanDuel: $3,400 – Seattle Mariners

This slate seems more of a pitchers slate for me as I run down these matchups, but I think you can still play Kyle Seager even against Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka. Seager has much better splits against right handed pitching this season and has three hits and two home runs in 12 at bats against Tanaka.

Washington Nationals Stack

The Washington Nationals face left-handed pitcher Wade Miley who currently holds a 5.58 ERA this season. He has gone 0-2 with with a 9.53 ERA in four starts for the Baltimore Orioles and I’m going all-in on the Nationals bats tonight. The players I like here are Anthony Rendon (3B), Bryce Harper (OF), Ryan Zimmerman (1B), and I wouldn’t oppose to adding Wilson Ramos (C) and / or Trea Turner (2B/OF) to load up tonight. Rendon has six hits in nine at bats against Miley. Harper has three hits in four at bats against Miley, and Zimmerman has four hits and four RBIs in six at bats against Miley.

Good luck tonight, and send me some questions if you’d like! Also feel free to tweet me pictures of your lineups if they won you some money!
