Welcome to another segment of Leading Off with Phillip Beneteau. In this daily segment I highlight leadoff hitters to target as well as players who were moved up in the batting order which will spike their value for the day. As most DFS MLB players know, hitting leadoff and near the top of the order is huge for DFS potential, especially if it is a player who is just being moved up because of injury or simply in a great match up.
Nelson Cruz (OF) – DraftKings: $4,700, FanDuel: $3,900 – Seattle Mariners
Nelson Cruz comes in to the game riding a five-game hitting streak and has at least a hit in 13 of his last 15 games. Cruz has smashed lefties this year with an OPS of 1.012 against lefties this season. He has five hits in 10 at bats against pitcher CC Sabathia. Sabathia has also been terrible on the road as he has gone 2-7 with a 5.32 ERA.
Mike Trout (OF) – DraftKings: $5,200, FanDuel: $4,100 – Los Angeles Angels
Mike Trout is known to take right-handed pitching deep and playing in Toronto tonight should only boost his numbers. Trout has six hits in 11 at bats against pitcher R.A. Dickey. Dickey struggles at home as his ERA blows up to 5.57 from his 3.39 ERA split no the raod.
Logan Morrison (1B) – DraftKings: $3,200, FanDuel: $2,900 – Tampa Bay Rays
Logan Morrison is not someone who is jumping off the page lately with his .160 batting average over his last 15 games. While those are not good numbers, Morrison should still be on your list for 1B tonight. Morrison has five hits and two home runs in 12 at bats against pitcher Clay Buchholz. Buchholz faired well in his last start going 6 innings and allowing just one run, but I see Morrison as a great value tonight at the 1B spot as I love to load up on some high priced Ofs.
Danny Santana (OF) – DraftKings: $2,900, FanDuel: $2,500 – Minnesota Twins
Danny Santana is a tale of two tapes this season. He has a .298 batting average at home this season compared to .195 on the road, a .263 batting average for night games compared to .212 for day games, and a .266 batting average against right-handed pitching and a .156 batting average against lefties. The stars may be lining up tonight for Santana tonight as he is playing a night game, at home, against a right handed pitching tonight. Santana also has six hits in 14 at bats against pitcher Anibal Sanchez. If there was any night to play Santana, tonight is your night!
Enrique Hernandez (OF) – DraftKings: $2,800, FanDuel: $2,300 – Los Angeles Dodgers
Looking to save some money in the OF tonight? Look no further than Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez has 10 hits and three home runs in just 16 at bats against pitcher Madison Bumgarner. I can see him being extremely low-owned by almost anyone who is looking at his recent production, name value, or pitcher he is playing against, but I love the guytonight!
Colorado Rockies Mini-Stack
While this game isn’t being played at Coors Field, there are two Rockies players with solid stats against pitcher Chase Anderson. Nolan Arenado (3B) and Charlie Blackmon (OF) jump off the page tonight. Arenado has six hits and three home runs in 20 at bats against Anderson and Blackmon has six hits and two home runs in 24 at bats against Anderson. Blackmon has missed the last couple games because of injury but did pinch hit last game. If he;s in, he’s in my mini-stack.
Detroit Tigers Stack
Shockingly enough, this Tigers stack isn’t against a left-handed pitcher. When I was going through this pitching matchup I saw that there were a handful of Tigers that have had previous success against pitcher Kyle Gibson. If you add in the fact that Gibson has a 4.74 ERA over his last three starts, these Tigers I like will definitely be big play tonight. The Tigers I like are Ian Kinsler (2B), J.D. Martinez (OF), Miguel Cabrera (1B), and Erick Aybar (SS). Kinsler has nine hits and a home run in 21 at bats against Gibson. Martinez has eight hits and two home runs in 19 at bats against Gibson. Cabrera has five hits and a home run in 15 at bats and Aybar has four hits in 10 at bats against Gibson. The Tigers are on the road, which I love, because they will get the max amount of at bats which should bode well for everyone!
Good luck tonight, and send me some questions if you’d like! Also feel free to tweet me pictures of your lineups if they won you some money!
