Welcome to another segment of Leading Off with Phillip Beneteau. In this daily segment I highlight leadoff hitters to target as well as players who were moved up in the batting order which will spike their value for the day. As most DFS MLB players know, hitting leadoff and near the top of the order is huge for DFS potential, especially if it is a player who is just being moved up because of injury or simply in a great match up.
Jake Lamb (3B) – DraftKings: $5,500, FanDuel: $3,600 – Arizona Diamondbacks
Let’s just start this one off by saying that all boxes are checked. Jake Lamb has almost only been playable against right-handed pitchers this season as he has hit for a .188 average against left-handed pitching, while he has a batting average of .313 against right-handed pitching this season. He faces righty Chase Anderson who has not been able to get out of the fifth inning in his last five starts. I expect Lamb to smash this matchup and pay a great return on this slate.
Mark Trumbo (OF) – DraftKings: $4,700, FanDuel: $3,300 – Baltimore Orioles
While Mark Trumbo hasn’t been amazing against left-handed pitching this season, pitcher Jorge De La Rosa has been anything but good this year. Trumbo has three hits, including two home runs and five RBIs in just six appearances against De La Rosa. I expect this trend to continue as I, and Vegas, are expecting this to be a very high scoring affaire. If you do go the Trumbo route I would suggest stacking him with Jonathan Schoop (2B), Manny Machado (3B) and Carlos Gonzalez (OF).
Danny Valencia (3B) – DraftKings: $4,900, FanDuel: $2,700 – Oakland Athletics
Speaking of lefty killers, Danny Valencia is one of the best hitters against left-handed pitching this season. Valencia and the Athletics will be visiting boiling hot Texas this evening and facing left-handed pitcher Martin Perez. Perez has allowed 24 runs (19 earned) over his last three starts. The Oakland at Texas game is another one I will be stacking tonight as I would add Billy Butler (1B) and I would also take a look at Jurickson Profar (2B) and Ian Desmond (OF) from the Rangers.
Victor Martinez (C/1B) – DraftKings: $3,400, FanDuel: $2,900 – Detroit Tigers
Victor Martinez has never faced pitcher Drew Pomeranz, but I believe that Martinez will get the better end of the bat. Martinez is one of the best left-handed pitching hitters in the game, and while he has been struggling since the All Star break, I expect him to find his grove tonight on the road in Boston. If you are stacking this game, David Ortiz (1B)(unfortunately not stackable on DraftKings), and Jose Iglesius (SS) who is batting second tonight for the Tigers, are both great plays tonight.
Good luck tonight, and send me some questions if you’d like! Also feel free to tweet me pictures of your lineups if they won you some money!
