We have an action packed fifteen game slate ahead of us, and the pitching options are plentiful tonight. In this article I am going to preview the top cash, and tournament pitchers, along with a few pitchers I am going to be targeting hitters against. With that being said, let’s get to it!
| Pitchers to Target in Cash Games
Madison Bumgarner – DraftKings: $13,000 FanDuel: $11,500 – San Francisco Giants
Madison Bumgarner is yet again the top option on tonight, and he should have some extra motivation as he is firmly in the National League Cy Young race with Clayton Kershaw possibly out for the rest of the season. Tonight he faces off against the New York Yankees who have been one of the worst teams this season against lefties, and Bumgarner should have no problem breezing through this lineup. The majority of the Yankees hitters have yet to register a major league at bat against Bumgarner which also gives him a slight advantage. Bumgarner will be the chalkiest option tonight, and he is close to a must have in cash games tonight.
Jason Hammel – DraftKings: $7,900 FanDuel: $8,600 – Chicago Cubs
Jason Hammel is not the flashiest pitcher on today’s slate by any means, but he has allowed three runs or less in six of his last nine starts, and he has a great matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers. Hammel has been lights out against the Brewers over the course of his career with an 8-1 record, and a 2.66 earned run average (ERA) in 12 starts. The Brewers own the highest strikeout rate in the league against righties, and even though Hammel is by no means a prolific strikeout pitcher, he should still have ample opportunities at strikeouts tonight. Hammel is a very safe option tonight, and I expect at least a quality start from him tonight.
| Pitchers to Target in Tournaments
Archie Bradley – DraftKings: $7,300 FanDuel: $6,600 – Arizona Diamondbacks
Archie Bradley is priced down quite considerably considering his matchup and the ballpark. Tonight he faces off against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, and while the Great American Ball Park is not a pitchers park by any form of the word, it is a lot better than Chase Field where Bradley has struggled quite considerably this season. Bradley has allowed nine of his ten home runs at home this season, and his home slugging percentage is .507 compared to .383 on the road. Bradley should be able to suppress the power bats that the Reds have at the top of their lineup, and he also has been able to pick up a decent amount of strikeouts this season, averaging 8.87 strikeouts per nine innings. Bradley has so much potential, and I will definitely have some exposure to him in my tournaments tonight.
Tanner Roark – DraftKings: $10,500 FanDuel: $8,700 – Washington Nationals
Roark may be slightly overpriced on DraftKings, but that could drive his ownership down which is great for tournaments. Roark has performed very well against the Padres through three starts against them in the past two years, he has won all three outings while holding a 1.73 ERA, and averaging 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Roark is coming off one of his best outings of the season, and he should be able to keep the momentum rolling against a lackluster Padres squad tonight. He has mediocre strikeout upside, but if he can go deep into this game I can see him picking up around eight strikeouts and a win.
| Pitchers to Target Hitters Against
Luis Perdomo – San Diego Padres
Luis Perdomo is one of the worst pitchers against lefties this season, and he faces off against the Washington Nationals tonight, who have plenty of lefties who can simply mash the ball. Perdomo has surrendered a .396 weighted on base average (wOBA), and a .212 isolated power (ISO) to lefties this season, along with an absurd hard contact rate of 41.5%. The two bats I am looking to are Daniel Murphy, and Bryce Harper, but I will also have a lot of Stephen Drew tonight if he cracks the starting lineup. Perdomo has been improving as of late, but the Nationals will be his toughest test in some time, and I expect him to struggle in this one.
Eduardo Rodriguez – Boston Red Sox
Eduardo Rodriguez faces off against the Minnesota Twins tonight, and the Twins have a few lefty mashers that are in a great spot tonight. Rodriguez has allowed a .381 wOBA, and a .316 ISO (not a typo) to righties this season. The Twins have five players with an ISO above .200 against southpaws this season, and four players with a wOBA above .400, so they should have no problem crushing Rodriguez tonight. For stacking purposes, I am looking to the top of this order as they should have ample scoring opportunities, and possibly five plate appearances. Rodriguez has shown me that he is nothing but a below average major league pitcher, and I will stack against him until he proves me otherwise.
