Welcome to another segment of Leading Off with Phillip Beneteau. In this daily segment I highlight leadoff hitters to target as well as players who were moved up in the batting order which will spike their value for the day. As most DFS MLB players know, hitting leadoff and near the top of the order is huge for DFS potential, especially if it is a player who is just being moved up because of injury or simply in a great match up. I am going to get straight to the point today as there are 4 mini-stacks I like for tonight’s slate.
Trea Turner (2B/SS) – DraftKings: $3,200, FanDuel: $2,300
Jayson Werth (OF) – DraftKings: $4,500 FanDuel: $3,200 – Washington Nationals
The Washington Nationals host left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir this evening. Both Trea Truner and Jayson Werth have great left-handed pitching splits and even with Werth in a bit of a slump since the All Star break, this is a perfect matchup for him to get hot again. Werth has five hits in seven at bats against Kazmir, which includes a home run.
Mark Trumbo (OF) – DraftKings: $5,000, FanDuel: $4,000
Caleb Joseph (C) – DraftKings: $2,600, FanDuel: $2,300 – Baltimore Orioles
This game against the New York Yankees could easily turn into Tuesday Night at the Fireworks. Both starting pitchers belong in the bullpen, and Mark Trumbo is the first person I would be starting my DFS lineups with this evening. The Orioles will face pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who has a 5.11 ERA this season in 98.2 combined innings. Mark Trumbo has five hits in six plate appearances against Eovaldi and Caleb Joseph has four hits, including a home run, in five at bats. I will be using this stack tonight as Joseph is one of the cheapest Catcher options on the slate.
Ian Desmond (OF) – DraftKings: $3,900, FanDuel: $4,500 – Texas Rangers
Mike Trout (OF) – DraftKings: $5,400, FanDuel: $4,300 – Los Angeles Angels
They may not be on the same team, but they both should be owned tonight as I have both of them going yard in this game. It is rare to see Ian Desmond at a lower price on DraftKings, but I will take full advantage as he has owned this matchup against pitcher Tim Lincecum. Desmond has three hits, including two home runs in just six at bats against Lincecum. Mike Trout has also dominted this matchup against opposing pitcher Kyle Lohse. He has a hit in all three at bats and I expect him to knock another home run tonight as he seems to have found a nice grove since returning from the All Star break.
Detroit Tigers Team Stack
Yes, you may be reading this with a tired eye as you may have read my piece yesterday saying how I loved every Detroit Tiger’s player and couldn’t choose just three to play. The Tigers only managed one run last night which was a supreme dissapointement, but tonight I am jumping right back on them. My main stack is the same, Victor Martinez (C/1B), who crushes left-handed pitching and has five hits in 10 at bats against pitcher Tommy Milone. I also love Ian Kinsler (2B), who rarely goes hitless in back-to-back games. Kinsler has a .319 batting average, with one home run in 19 at bats against Milone. I would also add Nick Castellanos (3B) who has been gold almost every time I have played him against left-handed pitching, especially at home.
Thanks for reading and good luck this evening!
